Quake 3 on Android: how to play!

Categories: Gaming News   Tags: ,

Quake 3 on Android? Oh yes. We’re not talking any mere turn based port of an old id Software game either, like Doom RPG, but the full 3D affair with working controls, and even online play. You can set it up on your Google phone right now, so read on to find out how.

So you’ve got a Quake 3 disc from 1999 gathering dust in your old games cupboard. You’ve just picked up a swish new Android phone. Time to combine the two, as one enterprising developer has the classic shooter up and running on his Motorola Milestone.

The port of Quake 3 on Android only works on Android phones with keyboards and Android 1.6 for now (So Milestone and LG GW620 when LG updates the OS) but will run at up to speeds of 25 frames per second and will work in Wi-Fi deathmatches against opponents on a PC.

Unfortunately, Quake 3 on Android is reportedly quite crashy on the underpowered T-Mobile G1, but if you’ve just bought yourself a brand spanking new Google blower with a keyboard, you owe it to yourself to check out how to do it with the simple instruction guide (just a few installs, though you’ll need a copy of the game) at the link below – then skip straight back here for all the latest and greatest Android news!
