Canon’s Legria line up is rightly lauded for its excellent sharp shooting skills. So can the Canon Legria HF S11 live up to the legacy and justify its mega price tag? Or is it just a needless gadget expense as cammies get ever cheaper? Read our Canon Legria HF S11 review now to find out.
There’s absolutely no denying that the pics churned out by the Canon Legria HF S11 are nothing short of breathtaking. That’s down to some killer specs which Canon’s rivals could do with copying down. The 25p Cinema mode makes your home movies look less crassly cobbled and grain-tastic and more like a Hollywood masterpiece. But it’s the F1.8 lens with gives you pin sharp shots every time.
On top of that, you get a stonking 10x optical zoom so you can peer right up your mate’s nostrils and there’s also space for a whole day’s footage to be loaded up on the Canon Legria HF S11’s internal memory. That can be bulked up via SD.

Full manual controls will doubtless get camcorder buffs all het up and it’s fair to say they worked excellently on test. However, lashing out over a grand means that these hardcore types will want some added bonuses. Like a proper viewfinder, which is sadly lacking on the Canon Legria HF S11.
The screen itself too, is a bit of pain, largely thanks to a joystick that seems to have a life of its own. The question is whether pros really want something this small when they can get a bigger cam for their high-end exploits. That said, if you are after a top end camcorder but don’t want to cart around something the size of an RPG, the Canon Legria HF S11 is definitely a good choice.
