Mario and The Legend Of Zelda are getting the recognition they deserve at the British Academy Video Games Awards with their creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, nabbing the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship.

As well as creating Mario Brothers and The Legend of Zelda, Miyamoto was also the brains behind Donkey Kong and Nintendogs.

But modest Miyamoto is not taking all the credit: “Videos games cannot be created by one person. Since Donkey Kong until the most recent New Super Mario Bros Wii, I have been working closely with friends for three decades to develop fun and enjoyable games.”

The original Legend of Zelda concept art recently popped up online while we loved Miyamoto’s latest creation, awarding it five stars in our New Super Mario Bros Wii review.

Miyamoto will receive the BAFTA fellowship at the British Academy Video Games Awards in London on March 19. Meanwhile the Ivor Novello Awards will recognise computer games music for the first time in May.
