Kobo Books has launched an open UK ebook store store that will put pressure on Apple iBooks and the Amazon Kindle. Read on for news of the new source of books made from bits…

Kobo Books looks set to put the screws on both Apple and Amazon with at least 100 of the site’s best sellers priced at £8.99 or less. Apple was recently reported to be seekingbestseller discounts for its forthcoming iBook store.

Kobo Books has snapped up publishers including  Random House, Penguin, Bloomsbury, Simon & Schuster and Faber & Faber.

By using the open ePub format, Kobo Books is selling ebooks which will be readable on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch using its Kobo app which also has versions for Google Android, Palm Pre, Blackberry smartphones, netbooks and laptops.

    Your conclusions are spot on: as a customer, I would like to get a good deal. Unfortunately, the move to the agency model has seen a ban on bundle offers, loyalty point programmes etc.

    Another negative side effect of something that was a bad idea to begin with.
