Apple iPad camera rumours are not new but further clues have popped up in the iPad SDK. Icons and underlying code point to an Apple iPad with a front-facing camera. Is this just idle iChat or a call from the future?

Icons spotted in the iPad 3.2 SDK show “Accept video” and “Decline or end video commands”. That seems like a pretty clear pointer to Apple iPad video calls.

But there’s more. Jump into the code of the Apple iPad telephony apps and you’ll find functions directly related to video chat which further strengthen the possibility that iChat will be plonked onto the Apple iPad.

The references to iChat could simply represent hangovers from code developed for other Apple products but the icons shown in the iPad SDK are specifically built and compressed for the new device.

Another possibility is that the code relates to a front-facing camera for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve definitely seen patents for an iPod Touch video camera and an front-facing iPhone camera.

If you’re still itching for some juicy Apple news, take a look at its Macbook near field communication patent.
