Apple has doubled the download cap for files downloaded on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS via 3G networks. Are Apple and networks preparing for bulkier Apple iPad apps?
Previously, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners could only download apps, songs and videos of up to 10MB through the iTunes app via 3G. Files over that size forced you to switch to WiFi to complete the download.
Apple now seems to have increased the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS 3G download cap to 20MB with reports flooding in from across the world of being able to grab larger files.
Apple iPad apps are likely to be larger than current iPhone apps to allow for more complex programmes and higher quality graphics. The download cap could well have been increased to deal with those far larger files.
The Apple iPad is due for release in late March when we’ll be able to see just how chunky its apps really are and how many will reach the increased cap.
