Facebook has added new settings to allow user to assign new access levels for third party applications and websites. Does this mean your privacy is more protected?

Prior to the new changes, Facebook users could only choose a privacy setting that was applied across all applications and websites accessing the social network via Facebook Connect.

Now Facebook allows you to vary the amount of content each Facebook app or third-party website is able to access.

The new Facebook access controls include options to show content to “everyone”, “friends of friends” and “friends”. Facebook has been encouraging users to be more open with founder Mark Zuckerberg getting in on the act.

Previous privacy changes opened up a Facebook loophole that could allow access to your email address while Mark Zuckerberg has claimed that privacy is “no longer a social norm”.

Privacy big news at the moment in the wake of the Google Buzz privacy problem. Are you concerned about just how much you’re sharing on social networks?
