Mobile World Congress is well and truly underway, with Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung already touting some absolutely scorching next-gen kit. And while we’ve had a bit of a play with a few, there are some we just want to nab now and scuttle off back to Blighty with, slinging our old school Android phone on the way.

Samsung Wave S8500
The bada phone we’d be waiting on, the Samsung Wave S8500 really looks the part and shows just why Sammy is truly at the top of its game. Okay, it doesn’t pack a projector like the I8520 Bea,, but it has a Super AMOLED screen, unquestionably the best we’ve ever spotted on a cell. Then there’s Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, a 1Ghz processor and HD video recording. And that’s before devs have got to work on a slew of new bada apps.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini
Sure the Pro version is a killer QWERTY effort, but the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini is definitely the Big S and Ericsson mashups hottest new number. As well as the ace UX UI, merging Timescape and Mediascape, it harks back to the days when small phones were cool and you didn’t need jeans the size of a tent to carry your blower round comfortably. The hot corners function, letting you tweak the phone yourself, is genius.

Motorola Quench
Billed as the Zeppelin, but now official as the Motorola Quench, you could be forgiven this was standard stuff from the people behind the DEXT and Milestone. But then you realise it has Swype touchscreen finger writing inside. That means you don’t need to stab separate letts, just swish your digits over the keys to spell out words. Much nippier and very cool. Oh and there’s MotoBLUR too just in case you want to get stuck into social networking.

Puma phone
This sports tie in with Sagem is set to be one of the stories of MWC. The solar charging panel sounds amazing and we’re desperate to find out just how all the sports stuff will make us fitter. The addition of tracker software to keep you bang up to date with workouts is a winner, especially as it’s meant to work when our running and on your bike. Video chat is also a handy addition.

Samsung I8520 Beam
So far, Sammy is out ahead in terms of slick new hardware. The Samsung Beam is the all new Android-toting projector phone from the Korean titan. It lets you spit out clips whether you’ve made them yourselves on the HD Ready camcorder, or just stashed your favourite TV shows on the phone. Either way it takes the cool, but pricey world of pico projectors and slaps it bang in the mainstream.

We’re out at Mobile World Congress now, bringing you all the news as it happens. So be sure to stay tuned for the latest images and video from the show floor.
