We’ve just rolled up in Barcelona, in time for Mobile World Congress 2010, which kicks off in earnest this afternoon. It’s actually snowing right now in the Spanish city, but we braved the cold to take a quick look around the main square of the mobile show. Read on, and we’ll tell you what’s happening, and when.
The world’s biggest phone expo is being hosted here at the Placa Espanya in Barcelona, and we’re on hand, equipped with all the kit to bring you live coverage of everything as it breaks. Folks are still setting up right now, but Samsung and Microsoft have splashed out on some huge advertising around the square, likely to tie in with the bada and Windows Mobile 7 phones they’re rumoured to be announcing.
Mobile World Congress: Hottest mobile rumour round up
Unlike the Las Vegas hosted CES, Mobile World Congress is just one hour of time with the UK, so you won’t have to stay up to the wee hours to catch our liveblogs. The tradeshow floor doesn’t open until tomorrow, but both Samsung and Sony Ericsson will show off their wares tonight at 5pm UK time, and you can bet we’ll be on hand for both to hoover up everything they’re going to show.
Things hot up even more from 8am UK time tomorrow, when Qualcomm’s press conference kicks offs, where we could see anything from a new Snapdragon chip for smartphones to FLO TV running on a netbook. At the same time, we’ll have peeps on the ground scouring the stands for all the latest gear, until 10.30am when Nokia‘s own prezzer begins.
There are plenty more live events throughout the week to tuck into (LG, HTC, you name them, they’re here), but the big ones at Mobile World Congress you’ll want to keep your diary open for are Microsoft’s shindig at 6pm on Monday, and a keynote from the head honcho at Google, CEO Eric Schmidt, on Tuesday at 4.30pm GMT, where he’ll doubtless be talking Android.
We’re off to unpack and set up, but check back shortly before five tonight when Samsung and Sony Ericsson kick things off.
