Vodafone‘s just slipped out a seriously tempting SIM-only deal that offers up plenty of data, Wi-Fi hotspot access and minutes on a short contract, and for £25 per month. The iPhone isn’t mentioned specifically, but read between the lines, and it’s clear the network is trying to get O2 Apple owners just out of contract to jump ship. Should you?

Without fanfare, Vodafone’s just whacked up an enticing new deal, giving you a SIM card with 900 minutes, unlimited texts, and for the first time, 1GB of internet and unlimited Wi-Fi hotspot access on the move, for £25 per month on a short term 12-month contract.

You’ll have to bring your own handset to Vodafone of course, but if you snapped up an iPhone 3G on launch and are now out of contract, there’s nothing to stop you ringing up O2 and getting it to unlock your phone for you. We’ve confirmed that these SIM deals will work with an iPhone, although you won’t get Visual Voicemail.

You can check out the deals right now over on Vodafone’s store – this Cold War on iPhone pricing is starting to heat up.

O2 already offer a sim-only deal, its the £35 a month package but for £20 a month once you are at the end of your contract, its not advertised but if you ask about it at upgrade time they will put you on it no problem.

T-Mobile offer 1GB (snigger snigger unlimited Internet), 600 minutes any network, 500 texts any network for £15 + a the unlimited internet is part of a booster package which can change to 7 other boosters each month, so if you need extra text or unlimited text one month you can switch to that, or unlimited land line booster or unlimited Euro Talk or unlimited Europe / Australian Talk or unlimited USA / Canada talk etc.

    A better deal I believe.

I find it hard to believe it’s aimed at the iPhone when the iPhone can only open up one browser at time or one application at a time.

It more likely to be aimed at the new Nokia N900 that supports multiple online applications open at one time. Full proper web browser, social networking applications such as twitter, facebook, flckr, youtube, Instant Messaging, Skype etc.

The iPhone can open 8 webpages at once, as far as I recall… But I take your point – 1GB is nowhere near enough for me – I’m constantly downloading attachments on e-mails and streaming podcasts from the BBC!
