Snoring U, a new iPhone app, claims it will monitor snoring and use the iPhone’s vibrate function to force the snorer to stop. Can an iPhone app really bring an end to sleepless nights?

If you snore like a bunged-up walrus or find yourself beside a partner who’s keeping you awake at night, Pointer Software thinks it has a solution – the Snoring U app. For £2.99, it promises to deliver better sleep.

The Snoring U app uses the iPhone’s microphone to monitor snoring. When Snoring U detects at least four snores, based on a change in the sound level in the room, the app vibrates or plays a sound clip to tell you to turn over which will stop the snores.

The Snoring U app gives you a lot of control, including letting you choose the number of snores that it’ll allow before kicking in and set the sensitivity of the microphone.

Pointer Software says the next version of the Snoring U app will add graphical features to show data like how many times it had to step in, when that occurred and how loud the snores were.

If you’ve used the Snoring U app, let us know whether it worked for you. Would you be better off with an iPod pillow or the Lightsleeper.
