Samsung Galaxy Portal: hands-on photos!

The Samsung Galaxy Portal, Samsung’s second Android phone for us Brits, stealthily slipped into shops late last month, without any of the fanfare of the original Galaxy last year. We didn’t let that put us off though, and grabbed one for a quick spin around the block. Read on for the photos!

Unlike the original Galaxy, the Samsung Galaxy Portal is billed as a more budget Android smartphone, with a lower rez 3.2 megapixel camera on board. But it doesn’t feel any cheaper, largely due to the solid home buttons the Google Nexus One could learn a few tricks off, and the matte casing, which feels much more pleasant to grasp than the polished plastic of the Galaxy.

The 3.2-inch screen on the Samsung Galaxy Portal was bright and responsive enough, making it a tempting proposition over the similarly cheap HTC Tattoo. Android 1.5 is starting to show its age however, and there’s no solid word on when Sammy’s Google phones will make the jump to Android version deux.
