Polaroid discontinued instant film production in 2008 but the Impossible Project has promised to launch a new version of instant film this year. However, it has just delayed its launch. Could the dream of bringing Polaroid instant film back from the dead be stumbling?
The Impossible Project has been selling the final batches of Polaroid instant film and promised to launch their instant film at a press event on 22 February. However, it has now announced that it’s postponing that event after unforeseen production problems.
The team behind the Impossible Project has announced that it encountered the production problem with a vital component on February 6. It’s now planning to reveal the status of the project and the products it will launch at an event on 22 March, one month later.
The worrying aspect of the Impossible Project’s announcement is that they will use that event to announce whether the creation of a new instant film is possible at all. Is the Impossible Project really impossible?
We’ve seen new Polaroid cameras and we’re hoping we’ll still see new film to go with them otherwise we’ll have to rest our hopes on the power of Polaroid’s new creative director, Lady Gaga. Oh dear.
