The Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field is the latest invincible slate PC designed for warzone workers, desert nomads and the butter fingered, and this time, it comes with a side order of smack talk from a Panasonic exec about rival machines.

Inside the Panasonic Toughbook H1 is an Atom 1.86GHz Z450 processor, a 64GB solid state drive and a 10.4-inch touchscreen, and a battery good for six hours on the go.

But the big selling point of course is that outer shell. The handle on the Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field means you shouldn’t drop it, but should the worst happen, it’ll survive a six foot drop onto a hard surface, and its magnesium alloy shell is 20 times stronger than the average laptop plastic. It’s also dust and water resistant.

Dell’s indestructible multitouch tablet

We’ve seen rival tablets to the Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field claiming the same ruggedness, but Panasonic’s director of product management for it US computer division, Kyp Walls, has some stern words for its competitors. He told Computing World that “HP, Dell and Lenovo, are saying that they meet the same specs as we do”, but is doubtful of their claims.

Ouch. Clearly Panasonic feels threatened by Dell‘s move into the immortal tablet market, but if you want to stick by it, you’ll be able to pick up the Panasonic Toughbook H1 Field from $3,379 (£2,160).

Don’t trust their battery specs though.
