ZoomIt is one of those rare beasts – the iPhone peripherals we were promised with iPhone OS firmware update 3.0. The SD card reader for iPhone and iPod Touch is due in April. But why should you want one?

ZoomIt’s a dongle that’ll hook up to your iPhone’s dock connector and let you load photos, music and other files from an SD card as long as they’re supported by the iPhone OS.

The ZoomIt dongle will work in conjunction with a ZoomIt app from the iPhone App Store. It looks like a great way to extend your iPhone’s storage and backup your photos on the go without needing your laptop.

ZoomIt is available to pre-order for $50 now and it appears it will ship to the UK. It’s due to launch in April.
