Windows Mobile 7 is reportedly set to emerge at Mobile World Congress on February 15 but a pile of features have apparently leaked already. Read on to ponder whether the rumours sound like Microsoft’s real Windows Mobile 7 plans…

Windows Mobile obsessives at PPCGeeks and Mobile TechWorld claim they have got their hands on firm details about Windows Mobile 7. They claim Windows Mobile 7’s new user interface is codenamed Metro and takes its looks from the Zune HD interface.

The traditional Windows Mobile home screen is apparently set to get a whole new look in Windows Mobile 7 but that it won’t support custom interfaces like HTC’s Sense and TouchFLO skins. There’s also a suggestion that Windows Mobile 7 will use Microsoft’s Silverlight but not include Adobe Flash support because of time restrictions.

Windows Mobile Marketplace will reportedly be the only place to grab applications for Windows Mobile 7 with manual installation from storage cards off the menu. That makes it sound like Microsoft has been watching Apple’s iTunes App Store model and likes what it sees.

We’ve heard it suggested before but the new rumours once again suggest that Windows Mobile 7 will boast full Zune and Xbox 360 support. It will ditch Active Sync and Windows Mobile Device Centre, opting instead to have the Zune software handle all synching.

With all the references to Zune in the leaks, it seems the long predicted arrival of the Zune Phone could be tied in with the launch of Windows Mobile 7. Does the updated version of Windows Mobile 7 sound like it will appeal to you? Or are other mobile OS options like Google Android and Apple’s iPhone OS just too far ahead?
