The Canon PowerShot SX210 IS doesn’t pack the same bulk as some other ultra zoom point and shoots we’ve seen of late, but only this 14.1 megapixel camera of the lot deserves the title “compact”. Read on for all the details.

The Canon PowerShot SX210 IS has a huge, 14x optical zoom, 28mm wide angle lens and a DIGIC 4 image processor just like the newly announced Canon EOS 550D DSLR. It also shoots in high definition 720p video at a smooth 30 frames per secon, comes with an image stabiliser, and a 3-inch LCD screen on the back.

As a compact camera, the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS is also designed perfectly for group hug shots, and can recognise up to 35 mugs in a frame, and focus accordingly.

As you’d expect, the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS is a wee bit future proofed, with support for the soon to be standard SDXC card format, and HDMI out for TV playback.

You can pick up a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS in stores from next month, but sit tight and we’ll be back with more photos for you before you know it.
