The Canon EOS 550D just hit the newswire, and it’s one beast of a shooter, with an enormous sensor and full HD video recording shoved inside. Read on for the breakdown on what it’s packing right here.
The Canon EOS 550D is Canon’s flagship new snapper for the PMA tradeshow this month, and on paper at least, it promises to steal the show: it’s got an 18 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor inside, plus a DIGIC 4 image processor and ISO 100-6400, expandable to 1200. There’s also a 3-inch LCD panel on the back for viewing your snaps back.
The Canon EOS 550D will fire shots off at a nippy 3.7 frames per second, but the big news is the 1080p video recording on the Canon EOS 550D, at smooth frame rates of 24, 25 or 30 frames per second, and of course there’s a HDMI port to hook it up to your HDTV for playback.
Price is still to be confirmed for the Canon EOS 550D, but the US version is set to sell for just $800 (£510) without a lens kit. We’ve got a call in with Canon UK now, but there’s a Canon press event scheduled for tonight so you can bet we’ll be cornering a few execs for a pricetag there at the very least, and a hands-on. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: We’ve been passed a video of the Canon EOS 550D in action. Check it out below.
