Once upon a time, full HD video was the preserve of Canon’s super expensive EOS 5D Mark II, but with the Canon EOS 550D, for the first time, 1080p video at a non-choppy frame rate has trickled downstream. If 30 frames per second is still only as smooth as peanut butter for you, you can even switch up to 60 frames per second in 720p HD mode, and if you want some extra zoom, you can shoot in VGA mode with the middle part of the sensor for 7x magnification.
Canon EOS 550D official: 1080p video on board
On the still front, the 18 megapixel Canon EOS 550D packs a nine point auto focusing system, and a metering system last seen in the more expensive EOS 7D. Unusually for a lower level DSLR, you can also twiddle with exposure compensation and bracketing to +/- five and two stops respectively.
