Sonic 4 is official folks! Sega’s bringing back its blue mascot in 2D, kicking off a new series of episodic, downloadable, super speed platformers, starting this Summer. Read on for all the details and video!
There have been rumblings around Project Needlemouse for months now, but the secret project has now been unwrapped and unveiled as Sonic 4. The first part, Sonic 4: Episode 1, is coming to Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for download in the Summer, and is a direct sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, just 16 years on and in gorgeous HD.
Sega’s brand manager Ken Balough revealed in an interview that traditional 2D Sonic moves are returning in Sonic 4, such as the spin dash, and power up items like power sneakers. A leaderboard will let players compete for the fastest times, and the Wii and PS3 versions will even incorporate motion controls.
You can expect Sonic 4: Episode 1 in a few months below, but check out the Sonic 4: Episode 1 trailer below and some stills in our gallery. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re regressing into a child-like state, and disappearing off to do a little excitement sick.
