Rewatch is a brand new BBC iPlayer iPhone app that looks set to beat Auntie twice over: as the first iPlayer app to offer downloaded shows stored on your iPhone, and the first to be optimised for the Apple iPad. Read on for all the details.
Rewatch is a third party BBC iPlayer app that’s set to arrive shortly on the App Store. It’s a smart enough program on the iPhone or iPod touch, letting you download Beeb shows over Wi-Fi (For the usual time limit period), instead of streaming them. Not only that, but Rewatch can license its technology to other channels, meaning Channel 4 could happily add 4oD to the service if it was willing.
BBC iPlayer iPhone download app prepped?
We asked the developer, Camiloo, about its plans for Rewatch on the iPad, and its managing director, Mark Newby let slip some juicy gossip: it’s planning to offer higher resolution streaming to take advantage of the 9.7-inch screen, and a Twitter ticker that shows what people are saying right now about the show you’re watching, as well as letting you contribute with your own two cents.
Rewatch should be a must have download when it launches for iPhone, but the potential to make the Apple iPad a complete replacement for your TV is what’s got us excited. Why have a cruddy old CRT in the bedroom when you could watch BBC iPlayer on an iPad instead? Look for Rewatch to hit the App Store soon.
