Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 camera breaks cover

The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 has just bounced into view alongside the ultra zoom SP-800UZ, and it’s one rugged shooter. Are you a mountain climber? Base jumper? Enthusiast for the word “extreme”? Just clumsy? You’ll want the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010, and luckily for you, we’ve swept up all the details on it right here.

The 14 megapixel Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 compact may not pry into the private lives of others like the 30x optical zoom toting SP-800UZ, but with its shock proof case, it’s far better suited to the mountainside. The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 can survive drops of 2 metres onto a hard surface, depths of 10 metres underwater, and temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius. It’ll also survive crushes of up to 100kg, should you have the urge to cycle over the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010.

The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 doesn’t skimp on the shot taking skills either though: it still packs a 5x zoom, HDMI out, 720p video recording and 2GB of internal memory so a standard SD card won’t fail you.

Also unveiled alongside the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 is the slightly lower spec Olympus Mju-Tough 6020, which features most of the same kit, save 1GB of internal memory, but in a slightly weaker shell. It’ll only survive drops of 1.5m and depths of 5m underwater, but will save you £80 off the asking price.

The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 ships from March for £399.99, so if you’re a butter fingered shutterbug, you won’t have long to wait until shattered snappers are a thing of the past.
