The Alienware M11x dinky gaming netbook has just gone on sale in the UK, complete with Dell’s usual array of custom specs and build-your-own bits. Want to know how much you’ll pay for the privilege of cranking out high end games on the go? Read on and we’ll break it down for you.

We first Alienware M11x back at CES, and were wowed by the netbook-sized machine’s potential to power through graphics hungry games, unlike its piddly Intel Atom cousins. As of today though, you can order the 11.6-inch Alienware M11x from Dell’s UK site and tailor the kit to meet your needs, and your wallet.

For £749, you can get a Alienware M11x with a Pentium Dual Core ULV SU4100 processor, 2GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M graphics, 320GB of hard drive space and a screen sharp enough to play 720p video, which won’t see you through Crysis on the highest settings, but ought to give many more games acceptable frame rates on low power laptop.

But if size really does matter and you’re prepared to splash out, you can switch out the processor for an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHZ HIP, a 500GB hard drive or 256GB solid state drive, and a massive eight gigs of DDR3 memory. However, tick all the boxes and you’re looking at a cost in the region of £1,4000-1,500, depending on what version of Windows 7 you buy, and if you opt in for pre-loaded anti-virus and service.

We know – you can get bigger, better specced machines for less, but you really are paying for the tiny profile with the Alienware M11x. Head on over to the Dell site now if you’re keen and see what bang you can get for your buck.
