Honda has hatched another great scheme to get us in green cars: a solar powered fuel pump that uses the sun’s rays to turn regular H2O into hydrogen for your motor. See the photos right here!
Honda’s clever solar hydrogen station is designed to slowly charge your car overnight so it’s ready to go for the daily commute: if you clock up 10,000 miles per year this way, an eight hour fill every night should keep things topped up.
The Japanse auto titan hopes to eventually push the technology out to homes: its small size for fuel pump and solar panel means it could fit in a driveway, and because it taps into the water supply, there’s no need for Joe Public to handle pure hydrogen at any point. Honda’s eco fuel pump will even convert solar energy during the day into electricity for the mains grid, so unlike current petrol pumps, it’s a source of renewable energy too.
Honda Asimo patent says it’ll learn to sing and dance
Honda has actually been testing the technology for the best part of the decade, but this version, which has just started operation at Honda’s R&D Los Angeles centre, removes the need for a compressor, so is much smaller than previous models, and more power efficient too. And needless to say, it has a touchscreen, because they always make everything better.
Between Honda’s solar charger and Evatran’s wireless car charging stations, we’ve got fingers crossed we’re going to spoiled for choice when all those oil reserves finally run dry.
