Sony’s 3.10 firmware update combined with Modern Warfare 2 is allegedly screwing up PS3 Blu-ray drives. Is the software duo waging war on hardware?
A sizeable thread on the official Playstation forums suggests that playing Modern Warfare 2 after installing the PS3 3.10 firmware is causing the console to freeze during gameplay.
Gamers are claiming the problem is more serious though, with 3.10 firmware rocking PS3 owners saying that after their consoles freeze, the problems spread to other games. This side-effect has led some to conclude that the issue has permanently damaged their Blu-ray drives.
Blu-ray drives do have a limited life-span and the reports on the PS3 forum are self-diagnosed. Sony has yet to respond officially to the queries. Have you experienced this problem? Let us know…

Windows Mobile 7 is due to arrive this year but excellently named Russian Windows Mobile obsessive Eldar Murtazin has apparently got his hands on it already. Read on for a glimpse of Win Mobs future…
Murtazin reports that Windows Mobile 7’s UI is “more complicated” than the ZuneHD’s, putting us in mind of those Zune phone rumours again.
The look of Windows Mobile 7 is apparently heavily inspired by Google Android and the iPhone (no surprises there really).
Murtazin reported that version of Windows Mobile 7 he got a glimpse of was a very early build but predicts that it will be show, perhaps in closed meetings, at Mobile World Congress in February.
The big news is that Windows Mobile 7 seems to be incompatible with Windows Mobile 6 apps. Murtazin reports that the handset he used would not run any Windows Mobile 6 apps and that the OS was “built from scratch”.
