Apple’s iPad doesn’t use a standard SIM card, opting instead for micro SIM. Now UK carriers are reportedly buying up a big batch of micro SIMs. Does that mean the iPad is winging its way to their networks?

Apple made a characteristically contrary choice by opting to use the relatively new micro SIM to serve the Apple iPad’s 3G functionality. Now rumours from SIM supplier Gemalto suggest O2 and Orange both have large micro SIM order in the pipeline.

The move could mean that O2 and Orange are set to grab the Apple iPad. Apple is certainly in negotiation with UK networks and with AT&T continuing its connection with Apple in the US, O2 also looks  likely to retain its deals with Apple.

However, simply snaffling up micro SIMs doesn’t necessarily mean O2 or Orange have done a deal with Apple. If the Apple iPad arrives unlocked in the UK (which is likely), it may just mean that the networks are ensuring they’ll be able to support customers who want to use the iPad on their network.

A week ago bought micro sim adapter from http://www.gomicrosim.com. Costs only 4.5 EUR. Really worth it. Now use my simcard in both Ipad and Iphone. Should save me lots of pounds, since there is no need to sign for another plan. Highly recommend this seller, his price and
delivery options are the best so far.
