Google Social Search goes public

Google Social Search is a new feature straight out of the big G’s R&D dungeons that makes social network search much smarter, by keeping results to just what your friends have to say.

Starting now, Google is rolling out a new feature you can switch on, called Google Social Search. Where its deal with Twitter just shows everyone and anyone’s 140 character mumbo jumbo, Google Social Search neatly adds relevant results in from your friends alongside regular results.

Google adds Twitter to search

For instance, if you search for a location in Google Images, with Google Social Search you’ll start seeing snaps taken by your friends there and published on Picasa or Flickr.

To get activist Google Social Search, you’ll need to add your social network connections in your Google profile here, and once it’s working, you’ll see results from your “social circle” appearing. You can adjust who’s in that circle with the adjacent “My social circle” tab, and pick what you have to show your friends via “My social content”.

Google Social Search is rolling out over the next few days in beta for English language users, and you can see how it works in the video below.
