The Apple iPad has been dated for the UK, and we’ve got word of when the first shipments will land over here in Blighty. Start queueing up in March, as that’s when Apple will release the iPad on this side of the pond.
Apple has confirmed that the 9.7-inch Apple iPad will ship internationally in late March starting at a shockingly low $499. This is, of course, for the Wi-Fi only Apple iPad: 3G deals with networks outside of the US aren’t expected to arrive for the Apple iPad until June or July. Still, Apple boss Steve Jobs was at pains to point out that the 3G iPad would be unlocked, meaning it’ll work on any network. A word of warning though: the iPad will use new micro SIM cards, so you’ll need to shop around to find a network supporting the iPad hardware.
That said, it’s not a tremendously long wait to get your hands on an iPad, and the pricing hasn’t left us feeling too glum either. Put in perspective, the entry-level iPad will cost less than £100 more than the cheapest eReader going, yet it’ll pack in a full colour screen, video abilities, Wi-Fi as standard and all the app-running abilities of the iPhone and iPod touch. Not bad, if you ask us.
Apple has yet to confirm precise UK equivalent pricing or the exact day to start queuing up outside your local Apple store, but we’ll update as soon as we hear either.
