The Sony PlayStation Arc was tipped to be the new name for the Sony PS3 motion control wand by an inside source earlier this month, and now the evidence is starting to stack up. The latest telltale sign? Sony appears to have registered a giveaway URL. Read on for all the details.

PlayStation Lifestyle has discovered Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) owns the url playstationarc.com ready to show off its impressive motion control accessory to the world, following its debut at E3. Is the PlayStation Arc around the corner? The evidence seems to suggest so.

So far, so uncertain though: it only takes one prankster to register a URL in the name of someone else (See ps3arc.com for a poor fake). Here’s where things get interesting though: a little more digging suggests that either this is in fact the case, or someone has covered their tracks very well.

Sony PlayStation Arc: the new name for PS3 Motion Control?

The domain playstationarc.com was registered by Brights Consulting, with the listing showing the 3rd party firm as a technical and billing contact. Not only is it a Japanese firm that specialising in trademarking, intellectual property and domain names, but it’s also listed on the whois for playstationarc.jp, and more convincingly, the Sony-owned playstation.jp, which redirects to the official jp.playstation.com.

So, has Sony really made a land grab on PlayStation Arc domain names? Is it just a clever fraud? Shout up with your thoughts in the comments below.
