Unleashed at CES, the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones are the German sonic star’s all-new wireless cans, designed to deliver the same audio punch as its other noise cancellers, minus the lengthy cables. So how does this affect sound quality? Read our Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones review now and find out.
You can’t doubt the quality of the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones. The music mad Deutsch folk don’t do dodgy products and these are no exception. The fear is that without wires, the sound quality would be somehow compromised, but that’s certainly not the case.
The Kleer wireless tech used by the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones transmits CD quality sound at 2.37Mb/s. You get a dedicated wireless transmitter in the box, which you hook up to your CD player (or MP3 jukebox), plug into the mains and away you go. Punters who want to use the cans on the go will be pleased to know these chunky beasts’ wireless transmitter can run on batteries too. The headphones themselves also run on rechargeable AAs.

It should be pointed out though that like all top notch audio efforts, the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones are really meant for musos listening to tunes in-depth at home. Therefore they’re more of an investment than a way to grab your tunes on the move.
But that aside, the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones really do an awesome job. There’s no degradation in sound quality and they work up to 20 metres away from the source, so you can indulge in your favourite tracks without having to stay leashed to your deck.
The only real quibble we had with the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones was with the bass, which could have packed more of a punch when we slung through some hip hop and dance-heavy tunage. Overall, however, the sound quality is top notch, with excellent detail and a real sense of being enveloped in the music.
At £139.99, these are the cheapest of the new Sennheiser RS range. But if you want a new pair of cans for the home and hate cables with a passion, the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones are certainly worth investing in.
