Samsung Galaxy Portal: Spica reaches UK shores

January 22nd, 2010

Samsung Galaxy PortalThe Samsung Galaxy Portal Android phone, otherwise known as the Spica, has come to the UK at last, and we’ve just snagged launch details and pictures for you. On the lookout for a budget Android blower? See here for the deets.

If you’ll recall, we the Samsung Galaxy Portal went on sale elsewhere in Europe last year under the guise of the Spica. It’s now slipped on to T-Mobile’s UK online store and high street shops, and for a cheap £20 per month too.

Samsung Spica spotted in the wild

For your hard earned, the Samsung Galaxy Portal packs HSDPA, a 3.2-inch screen, Wi-Fi and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It’ll also come with augmented reality app Layar pre-installed, which we were suitably impressed with when we tried it out the Thundre plugin for it last month.

But, and it’s a big but, the Samsung Galaxy Portal is only on Android 1.5, while phones like the Nexus One 2.1 race off onto 2.1. That’s a real shame for a phone running vanilla Android, but if you want Google smarts with none of the price, and can’t find a cheap HTC Hero anywhere, you can buy the Samsung Galaxy Portal now.
