Magic MouseApple’s patents are proving a fertile ground for rumours. One of the latest, filed on January 21, points to a gaming future for the Apple Magic Mouse and could hold a clue to why Apple’s Tablet event invite was paint splattered…

Apple’s Magic Mouse already handles a range of gestures but Apple’s January 21 patent suggests it is working on an advanced version. The patent points to a device that will process a wider range of gestures and explicitly notes the benefits for gaming and interactive navigation.

The new tricks Apple’s aiming to teach an updated Magic Mouse seem to include gestures like tilt, tap, slide, s scoop and brush. The last gesture is another clue which suggests Apple is set to introduce a new illustration programme.

Patently Apple, the patent obsessed Apple watchers, point to another recent patent for a 3D remote wand which could use a similar range of gestures and would clearly apply to most people’s vision of the Apple Tablet. With Apple’s latest event invite featuring a selection of Jackson Pollock-style splatters, the patent strengthens the case for an Apple iSlate/iTablet/iPad device with illustration smarts at its heart.
