Sony PS3 motion controlSony PS3 motion control, PlayStation Arc, call it what you will: Sony’s just given us word of a release date that’ll see it going head to head against Natal.

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai has gone on record to confirm that the PS3 motion controller, rumoured to be called Arc, will be released in “fall 2010 when we will be able to offer an exciting and varied line-up of software titles that will deliver the new entertainment experience to PS3 users.”

PlayStation Arc: the new name for PS3 Motion Control?

That Autumn launch window is later than Spring, which Sony said it was originally aiming for last year, but will still see the as yet unnamed PS3 motion control wand hitting shops before or around the same time as Microsoft’s Project Natal for Xbox.

Sony also confirmed that the PlayStation Arc will require the PlayStation Eye camera to work, and that a software line up would be shortly revealed for it. “We look forward to soon unveiling the exciting software line-up that further expands and defines the PS3 platform as the ultimate entertainment system for the home,” Hirai said.

We’ll let you know as soon as Sony’s PS3 motion control tech gets a name, as well as any more details that arrive before Autumn.
