Klipsch Image S4

Replacing your MP3 players naff buds is a no brainer. But with so many options, we’re still struggling to find a pair that work as affordable, yet definitive all rounders. Step up the Klipsch Image S4, the latest lughole lovers to get down for your dosh. Are they worth the £70 price tag? Read our complete Klipsch Image S4 review now and we’ll tell you.

The exorbitant Klipsch Image X10s might be the daddy of in-ear headphones. But their slighter sibling, the Klipsch Image S4 are about as good as it gets when it comes to cheap, but neat earphones. We’re talking great all round sound, minimal design and a price that’s worth every single penny.

Slide the tiny, discreet Klipsch Image S4s into your ears and immediately the sound isolation tech will become obvious. You’ll struggle to hear a thing going on around you, with the buds sitting snugly (and very deeply) in your ear canal. And then you turn the tunes on.

The Klipsch Image S4 headphones handle pretty much every genre you throw at them with aplomb, but it’s bassier, heavier tunage that really does them justice. We slung NME darlings and dance noobs Joy Orbison through them and the sound was immense. Bass was heavy but didn’t throb and there was a real warmth and depth about proceedings.

In terms of detail, the Klipsch Image S4s are also pretty stellar. We put Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion on our iPod, pressed play and were dazzled by just how much psychedelic bleeping and nurdling these little numbers can pick up, all without sounding like you’re missing out.

The carry case that comes with the Klipsch Image S4 earphones packs in three different sized plugs depending on just how big your ears are. You will need to adjust them because on first wear, we found they slipped out just a tad too easily. Change the cover though and they fit a treat.

Admittedly you can pay far less than £70 and still get a decent pair of headphones. But if you fly a lot, or just can’t stand any ambient noise leaking in and ruining your favourite tracks, these are just about the best buds you can get for under a ton. They compare brilliantly to similarly priced Sennheisers and the Atomic Floyd Twistjax.
