Sony VAIO Z gets bumper power boost

The Sony VAIO Z laptop’s just had its innards rejigged, spliced and souped up, and there’s a new version on the way with some seriously beefy specs. Want to know what it’s packing under the bonnet? Read on for the details and the pics.

The 13.1 inch Sony VAIO Z laptop now packs up to a 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 6GB of RAM and four solid state drives instead of a clunky, whirring hard drive to blaze through all your applications on the go.

On the graphics front, the Sony VAIO Z will burn through HD video and games with an NVIDIA GT330M chipset inside, and they’ll look the part too on a display with up to 1080p resolution, and there’s HDMI out to hook up with your HDTV, plus the option for 3G broadband.

If you’re looking for something slightly less stocky, you’ll be able to pick up a Sony VAIO Z with a slightly slower Core i7 2.4GHz chip, 64-bit Windows 7, 4GB of DDR3 DRAM, a 1600×900 screen and the same graphics too.

Both Sony VAIO Z models are out at the end of March, with prices still to be confirmed, but you can check them out up close in our official photo gallery here.
