Is PlayStation Arc the name of Sony’s PS3 Motion Control wand? That’s what one source claims the next-gen, Wiimote style wand’s moniker will be.
VG247 reports that Sony has called the PS3 motion controller the PlayStation Arc, according to what it claims is a reliable source. No official name has been given for the final product, and Sony declined to comment on the claim, saying that it does “not comment on rumour or speculation”, but this is the first legitimate report of a name seen so far, other than the previous codename for it, Gem.
PS3 Motion Control revealed at E3
The PlayStation Arc controller was shown of at E3 last Summer with a glowing orb on top for accurate motion sensing, but we’ve since seen a patent application outlining different potential connections, including other PS3 motion control wands.
There’s still no official word on a PlayStation Arc/PS3 Motion Control launch date beyond this March, but we’ll bring you word ASAP. We’re hedging our bets on something concrete at the Game Developers Conference in March if it misses that shipping window.
