Apple and HarperCollins are in the final stage of negotiations to bring the publisher’s books to the Apple Tablet, according to the well-placed Apple rumour mongers at The Wall Street Journal.
With Apple’s January 27 event now confirmed, Apple Tablet rumours are reaching fever pitch. However, the Wall Street Journal has a good track record with rumours with a former Apple marketing man suggesting it’s Cupertino’s favourite conduit for controlled leaks.
The Wall Street Journal report suggests that Apple and HarperCollins, a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, have had a series of meetings about ebook pricing and distribution. It claims HarperCollins will set the prices while Apple will take a percentage of sales.
If Apple and HarperCollins do strike an ebook deal, it could be a serious blow to Amazon’s Kindle and other smaller ebook reader firms like Cool-er. News Corp has shown its interest in the Apple Tablet in a coalition of other big publishers looking at how to bring its titles to the new device.
We’ll be hunting down all the juiciest Apple Tablet rumours and bringing you the news from Apple’s January 27 launch event as it happens.
