The Palm Pixi Plus and Pre Plus are headed to the paws of punters on Verizon’s network in the US, but the smartphone player was keeping schtum about a European release for the pair at CES. Will we ever see them in the UK? Recent words from Palm have us worried we may not.
We spoke to a Palm UK spokesperson today about a potential wider release for the Palm Pixi Plus and Pre Plus models, but were told that the company is not making any comment on plans for the duo at this stage.
Palm Pre Plus: spruced up webOS for 2010
That’s in contrast to the original Palm Pixi launch, at which Palm confirmed plans for a European release, albeit without a precise date. When we quizzed the company about the Pixi Plus, however, Palm was less forthcoming than in recent months. All the company would comment on was the Palm Pixi, refusing to be drawn on its newer cousin, or to give any details on its launch in the UK.
“We’re not giving any details at this time about Palm Pixi availability in Europe; however, we do plan to expand Palm Pixi distribution and will announce more when appropriate,” the spokesperson told us, neatly sating our appetite for the Pixi in Britain, while simultaneously smiting our desire Pixi Plus information.
We’ve seen spyshots of a Palm Pixi capable of running on European networks already, but it’s not clear whether this is the version already out in the US, or the Palm Pixi Plus. Now that those across the pond are on to the latter, we’re crossing our fingers and touching wood in the hope Palm gives us Europeans the same treatment. We’ll keep you posted.
