Hold onto your headgear. Ubisoft has blown the covers off a new Assassin’s Creed game. It’s not a spinoff either. Word from the publisher is that it’s a brand new title. With added multiplayer!
It’s just little under two months since Assassin’s Creed 2 first had us impaling historical figures but it seems Ubisoft is in a rush to deliver more bloodthirsty period style antics.
Ubisoft dropped the bombshell in a press release outlining the publisher’s plans for fiscal year 2010-11 where it mentioned “a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode.”
The announcement prompted speculation suggesting it could be a spinoff, but Ubisoft has confirmed it’s a new title starring Assassin’s Creed 2 main man Ezio picking up where things left off.

Whether Ubisoft backtracks and says it’s not an Assassin’s Creed 3 game, but an expansion remains to be seen. The publisher will want to avoid any potential boycott like the one Valve faced when it announced Left 4 Dead 2 so soon after content for the original was promised. There’s still plenty more Assassin’s Creed 2 to play, mind.
Ubisoft earlier revealed that the first batch of Assassin’s Creed 2 DLC, Battle of Forli and the Bonfire of the Vanities will be heading to consoles later this month and February.
