UK Parliament launching iPhone app

MP For a WeekParliament is set to release an iPhone app. The new app will work alongside MP For a Week, an online game to introduce school children to the workings of parliament. Disappointingly it isn’t just like The Sims with added ridiculous expense claims.

Tom O’Leary, Parliament’s head of education, demonstrated the currently unnamed iPhone app. It uses the iPhone’s GPS to let you know who the MP is for where you are standing at that moment and includes answers to hundreds of questions about Parliament and parliamentary process.

The iPhone app isn’t available yet but you can take a peek at the MP For a Week game on Parliament’s website. It puts you into the role of an MP, putting together speeches to deliver in Parliament, trying to get the speakers attention and responding to queries from constituents. Left 4 Dead  2 it is not.

The actual Speaker of the House, rather than his pixellated counter-part, John Bercow introduced the new game recounting tales of folk who only managed to be MPs for a week due to dying during their first term. They did better than Thomas Higgins who was dead by the time he was elected in 1906. If you think you can do better, you can try out MP for A Day now.
