The Asus Eee Box is a nifty little box to have sitting underneath your flatscreen as it is, but it could be about to get another feather in its cap: Blu-ray.
A version of the NVIDIA Ion infused Eee Box EB1501 has been spotted on a Swiss shopping site with an optional Blu-ray disc drive for €436.69 (£390), along with a dual core Atom 330 processors, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and Windows 7.
Currently, the only official Eee Box version with an optical disc drive has a DVD writer only, but a Blu-ray drive could make it an even more capable home theatre PC, letting it play not only downloaded HD video but discs too.

Of course, a £390 Eee Box would hardly be the cheapest Blu-ray spinner on the market, but it would be one of the smallest, and with the right remote (or iPhone app), make an excellent substitute for almost all your set top boxes under the telly.
We asked Asus if an Eee Box Blu-ray option was about to be launched, but the company wouldn’t confirm anything. Hang tight though: with the stockist quoting a 19 January shipping date, we suspect that an official announcement might not be far off.
