Casio Hybrid GPS cameraCasio’s squeezed an accelerometer and GPS unit inside a modified Exilim EX-H10 to create a new hybrid GPS camera that can estimate where you are even when you’re indoors.

The modified Casio Exilim EX-H10 which was spotted by Japanese photo blog, DC Watch Impress, uses its GPS unit to geo-tag images while you shoot. The clever addition is that it tracks your movements using the accelerometer when it can’t contact the GPS satellites.

The data recorded by the accelerometers in the Casio Exilim EX-H10 hybrid GPS prototype is then compared with your last GPS position to give your images an estimated location stamp.

The hybrid GPS Casio Exilim EX-H10 could also allow you navigate with it. The prototype has built-in maps that can be displayed on its screen and it will show your location and allow you plot places you have taken photos onto the map.

While the hybrid GPS camera is just a prototype at the moment, Casio has a habit of getting its innovations on sale quite quickly. Look at the super-fast Casio Exilim EX-FH100 and Casio Exilim EX-H15 with its dynamic photo tech which allows it to put moving objects onto a new background. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the hybrid GPS camera arrive soon.
