we7We7 is set to launch monthly subscriptions and has an iPhone app in the works, according to founder and CEO Steve Purdham. He’s revealed that the streaming site’s ad-free subscription model will launch in February.

Purdham, who co-founded We7 with musician and digital music maven Peter Gabriel, says: “From February, we’ll be opening our subscription models which will get rid of the ads.” No details on specific pricing for those plans has been released yet.

As well as adding paid ad-free subscriptions to its currently ad-supported model, We7 has an iPhone app ready to submit to Apple. The app, which allows you to stream music on the move and buffer it for offline listening, would compete directly with Spotify’s iPhone app.

Purdham could not confirm when We7 will submit their application to the iTunes App Store but confirmed that the site is also working on apps  for other mobile platforms including Google Android.

We’re chasing up further details on We7’s subscription plans and their iPhone app. Keep your eyes on Electricpig for more news.

It is very true and helpful but Your cable TV bill pays for the cost of the cable and the infrastructure needed to run it, aswell as Virgin’s (or whoever’s) profit – they’re not a charity. If you want to have the cost of your downloads included on that, you will need to pay extra money on top of that, which is exactly what the record companies are lobbying for. so be aware of it.
