Sky NewsSky News’s iPhone app racked up over one million downloads today, so it’s chosen this moment to launch its new mobile internet service. The Sky News mobile internet site will bring the content highlighted by the iPhone app to other phones.

To access Sky News’ mobile internet service, you can visit m.skynews.com via your mobile browser. Smart phone users are automatically directed to the site which includes news stories and videos. You can also get to mobile TV via your carrier or direct from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

The Sky News mobile internet service downgrades content to cope with more basic phones reducing the site to the main headlines to cut down loading times. There’s also an medium level which will show thumbnail pictures and text.

The Sky News iPhone app was launched last year and is available for free in the iTunes App Store and Sky also announced a Yahoo! TV widget at CES.

Presumably the mobile web service means we won’t be seeing an Android app any time soon. We know Rupert Murdoch isn’t all that keen on Google anyhow…

Don’t forget that you can catch the Electricpig team on Sky News’ Technology Unplugged on Fridays.
