Sony’s Playstation Network has been looking at paid for subscription features for some time but now Sony seems to have hinted at its plan in a survey to UK Playstation Network members. Read on for hints of what’s in store…
Sony’s Playstation Network survey, conducted by Ipsos, explores different possible subscription models for the service. It lists possible member benefits with different plans and pricing for each.
The survey suggests some standard stuff such as exclusives and early access. However, there’s also some more unusual options like “free title trials” – getting a game’s first hour for free, user-to-user challenges and a catch-up TV service. There’s also a suggestion of a Sony Playstation Network cloud storage service.
Price options suggested in Sony’s survey range from £2.99 a month up to £14.99 a month with annual fees for a Playstation Network subscription service looking like they’ll set you back 55% less than monthly payments. For a year’s subscription the suggested packages range from £19.99 up to £99.99.
The contents of the survey don’t necessarily mean Sony will do all the things listed – it’s likely that the gaming giant is testing the water. But Sony bosses have said in the past that it is planning a premium subscription service so this just more evidence that it’s coming soon.
