The Sony Alpha a450 DSLR kicks things off for Sony at CES in style. Just announced, it’s a new snapper for those ready to make the jump from their point and shoot, with specs to match the tempting Nikon D3000 introductory DSLR. Read on for all the info.

The 14.2 megapixel Sony Alpha a450 DSLR totes the sort of specs you’d expect from any new picture box, including an APS-C size sensor, up to a nippy seven frame per second shooting speed and ISO all the way up to 12800 for lowlight situations.

But the Sony Alpha a450 aims to make things easier for newcomers wanting to fire off perfect shots overtime with a few extra tweaks. Sure, there’s Live View on the 2.7-inch LCD screen for anyone averse to squinting through a viewfinder, but the killer features for first timers are an Auto HDR mode that takes two successive shots to pull together a still with a wide dynamic range, and SteadyShot INSIDE anti-shake tech to stop wobbly pics. There’s still no HD video recording though, so shutterbugs keen on filming clips as well may want to look elsewhere.

The Sony Alpha a450 is out next month if you want to make a step up from your beefy bridge camera. Price is still TBC, but expect it to weigh in quite light on the wallet scales.
