Apple’s announced today that 3 billion apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch have been swept up from the iTunes App Store’s virtual shelves. Funny that they chose Google Nexus One launch day to mention it…
Presumably speaking from the secret Apple Tablet test labs, Steve Jobs modestly noted: “Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months – this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before.
“The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod Touch users an experience unlike anything on other mobile devices.”
Do you think he might be trying to get a message to Google with its Android Marketplace and Palm with its App Catalog? To further strengthen the message, Apple threw out some more stats: the iTunes App Store’s in 77 countries and includes 20 categories of apps.
Apple closed its triumphant announcement with a brief run down of its past achievements and it leaves us wondering: will we get an Apple Tablet on January 27 and what else might Jobs have in the pipeline?
