Samsung’s revealed a slimmed down DSLR-style compact, the Samsung NX10, ahead of the start of CES 2010. It’s out to battle Micro Four Thirds cameras like the Olympus PEN EP-1 and bringing a bigger sensor to the party.
The Samsung NX10’s 14.6MP sensor is a full size APS-C size chip (measuring about 28.4mm diagonally) while Micro Four Third cameras like the PEN EP1 and the Panasonic Lumix GF1 which use sensors that are measure around 8mm diagonally.
The other difference between the Samsung NX10 and its Micro Four Thirds foes is that it boasts a built-in viewfinder. On the down-side, it is electronic and only delivers VGA resolution.
Though it has a smaller body than most DSLRs, the Samsung NX10 still looks pretty chunky. It also packs in 720p video capture and a 3in OLED screen. And while it has a hefty megapixel count, it’ll only go up to a rather pathetic ISO 3200.
The Samsung NX10 will come with three lenses – a 30mm f2 (42.6mm) pancake, a 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 OIS (27.7-84.7mm) and a 50-200m f4-4.56 ED OIS 77-308mm.
There’s no news on prices yet but expect to see further details revealed during CES. Keep your eyes trained on Electricpig for all the latest news from CES 2010.
