Google Fast Flip, Google’s slick way to flick through news sources quickly, has added another 55 new publishers to the service including three from the UK – the Telegraph, Express and Independent.
Google Fast Flip shows web articles in a more familiar magazine-style layout with pages that can be flipped. It launched three months ago with a range of American publishers but has now expanded its reach to bring UK news into the mix as well as additional US content.
Google’s been under-fire from Rupert Murdoch recently but it seems other newspaper groups are willing to work more closely with it. William Lewis, editor-in-chief of Telegraph Media Group, says: “We’re pleased to take part in this experiment aimed at improving the reader’s engagement with our journalism.”
While Google has faced attacks from big publishers, it has recently been reaching out to media firms with innovations like Living Story (which gathers stories together by topic) and changes to its First Click Free service to make it easier for publishers to control how much of their content is available.
