The Elgato EyeTV iPhone app has a secret option for 3G streaming built in, as we revealed back in October. But now Elgato’s come up with more straight forward solution, putting out an update to its EyeTV software for Mac that lets you stream to an iPhone web app, taking Apple’s approval process out of the equation entirely!
3G TV streaming options for the iPhone, while technically possible, are still fairly limited in number, but Elgato’s update for its EyeTV 3 software adds a new one that Apple cannot clamp down on, no matter what. Upgrade to Elgato EyeTV 3.3, and you can stream its output onto an iPhone through a web app, found at https://live3g.eyetv.com.

The web app extension for Elgato EyeTV allows for another neat feature: 3G streaming to TV-out, so you can stream onto any available screen with the right cable. Of course, the low streaming resolution means you probably won’t want to, but the option is there if you really can’t watch the footie where you are on a big screen any other way.
The Elgato EyeTV update also adds 64-bit support for H.264 video decoding, so if you’ve got a pimped out Mac, you’ll notice a sharp increase in playback performance. You can grab the update now by choosing Check For Updates in the EyeTV menu.
